Space Police

They traveled the galaxy searching for those who had committed crimes, the truly evil…
They came for you.

It doesn’t matter if you are a murderer or if the worst crime you had ever committed was stealing a mere apple, the S.A.C.U. (Special Attack Criminals Unit) does not differentiate between small and large crimes. All criminals are equal in the eyes of the law and those findings themselves on the wrong side of the S.A.C.U. will be brought to justice by any amount of force necessary.

-----------------------------------------------
About:
The S.A.C.U. (Special Attack Criminals Unit) is a highly trained Space Police Unit. Think of them like S.W.A.T. if there were no court system, no disciplinary action against Officers who got too rough with those they were arresting, and if they were equipped with the latest and best space age weapons technology. Each Officer is issued a laser rifle, energy reflecting body armor (which offers protection against bullets, lasers, and even magical attacks), a heat sensor helmet (useful for tracking fleeing criminals even in the dark), magnetic cuffs (bulky handcuffs that seal closed through the power of strong electro magnets), and anti-gravity boots (useful for short bursts of flight). Each unit, a group consisting of five officers or more, gets a taser bot in addition the their normal gear. This bot is spherical in shape and capable of flight speeds faster than an average human can run. Its main purpose is to chase down fleeing criminals and deliver a jolt of energy into their body great enough to render them unconscious.

Captured criminals are swiftly spirited away from what ever world or time period they have been collected from via tiny cells on a transport ship only to later be deposited into similar sized cells on the prison space station of Mars. Escape from this prison station is not recommended but it would be lying to say it was impossible.

1.) Pre-crime:
Perhaps it is a warm sunny day and your character is happily walking down the street oblivious to the fact that they are about to jaywalk and doing will bring the might of the S.A.C.U. down upon them or perhaps they are a thief out doing what they do best only to find themselves interrupted by overly heavily armed Space Police.

2.) Captured:
You have already be arrested for your crimes and now find yourself in the transport ship on the way to the station or perhaps you wake up in the prison already having been deposited in your new home.

3.) Escape:
You have had enough of this! Plan an escape from the S.A.C.U. forces.

4.) Chose your Own Starter:
Don't like these ideas? Make up one of your own!

The dagger would have to do for now, though he would have preferred a sword. Despite the fact that firearms existed on Barsoom, many still relied on the blade and that was just fine with this Virginian. Considering how many times John Carter or his wife had wound up kidnapped or captured, he dang well better have paid great attention to the details. If he had arrived unconscious like his companion it would have been an entirely different story.

He didn't bother replying to the first statement. Zagato had made it clear that he was not interested in unnecessary conversation.

"No argument here." He bit back a comment which could have only led to some animosity between them. There had been no need to blow their cover immediately, but he was used to thinking on his feet so he'd make do with this new "plan". The last thing he needed to do was get on the bad side of someone who could easily blow a solid metal door AND leave a dent in it that wide. Turning that power on to a man of flesh and blood would be more devastating, and fatal.

He moved down the corridors, listening for the sounds of footfalls. There wasn't much in the way of cover should they be happened upon too early. They needed to get as far away from the blast as possible.. the guards would likely head there first.

"If they have laser rifles, my dagger won't be much use... I'll need to arm myself from either their stores or by taking out one or two of the guards along the way."

The footfalls of heavily booted feet echoed down the corridors seemingly coming from everywhere and nowhere at the same time. For the time being the two men were able to move unrestricted through the empty halls, but it wouldn't last. Safety measures were being taken as armed men were getting into their positions for a textbook planned ambush.

Zagato wasn't one to scoff, usually, but as his companion rambled on about daggers and laser rifles he couldn't help but feel a supreme sense of confidence. Did none of the people here possess any magical abilities? If that was the case that did give him a decided advantage. It was the very reason he had not hesitated to make such short work of their cell door. Very few people could match him with magical powers... how could any mere mortal hope to stand a chance against him with laser rifles or knives?

"If we have the opportunity to secure a better weapon for you we will, but I see no reason to worry if we can not. Just lead me to the exit and I will take care of the rest."

This overly confident statement might have been the most he had said during their entire conversation but it succinctly summed up what he felt their roles in this escape were. He was the muscle and John was mapquest.

The din of the approaching officers, made it difficult to tell where they were coming from. If only they had managed to snatch a few uniforms of their own, they could likely slip right out of here in the confusion. That however, didn't look like a possible outcome either what with his impatient ally.

John Carter would have found the others confidence short-sighted despite his magical abilities. Even the most skilled fighting man could have an off day, nor had Zagato witnessed the full array of what Barsoomian scientists had to offer. The invisible warships for example might have been able to slip close to their target without arousing suspicion, giving them a chance to unleash a heavy load of equally invisible artillery. The trajectory of the projectiles could give Zagato a direction to launch his own assault towards, but even at that would he be able to stop all of the missiles, or strike the ships before they were able to move off?

Let a man really test his mettle against his foes before assuming he will be triumphant. Although- perhaps John Carter also suffered from a little of his own arrogance, for with a sword in his hand he felt unstoppable.

Knitting his brows, John failed to voice his displeasure at this arrangement. He didn't relish the idea of being nothing more than a mobile map or resting on his laurels while this man had all the fun. Besides he couldn't help feeling like some good men could be wiped out unnecessarily by resorting to only the use of Zagato's explosive abilities. Even if he had been wrongfully captured, that didn't mean that everyone following the will of the presumed Jeddak (Ruler.. essentially.. King) of this region was deserving of death. "If those are the terms, then I ask you to stay your hand whenever possible.. or to not be as liberal with your skills as you were with that door. These men might not all be irredeemable." Martians were usually loyal to their governing powers, even when they might not agree with their methods. This could be another civilization in need of being freed from a tyrannical ruler.

Cold black eyes watched, seemingly without feeling, as John spoke his terms but once again they were free of any and all malice. He had after all freely confessed his crimes so naturally his partner would think him such a monster capable of killing everyone in this place. Perhaps... if Princess Emeraude had been here and in danger he would not have been able to control himself but she was not and he personally saw no reason to kill unless it was necessary. He was not a monster.

Of course if he ever bothered to verbalize any of this instead of listening and then looking away at the corridor ahead of them he and John might have been able to come to a better understanding of each other but Zagato was never one to confide in people. He usually made his decisions and them 'grim-darked' at any who questioned him.

Still the conversation got him thinking. It said a great deal about this man Dotar. Would any normal criminal worry after the lives and safety of his captors? What sort of crime could a compassionate man like him have committed?

A large jail door, thicker and with the bars closer together loomed up ahead of them. As soon as the alarm had sounded this barrier had snapped into place, the first line of defense against escaping prisoners.

Zagato paused in the hall when he saw it. For all of his earlier bravado he still wanted to find out just what he was walking into before he arrived, so with cautiously narrowed eyes he scanned their location. Ahead was the door, thick and tightly locked, but he doubted he would have little issue with it should he decide to destroy it as he had the other. To their left was a painted green door. There were no signs telling you what kind of room this was but there was some old glue stuck to the wall indicating that there used to be. To the right there was an open archway. The smell of water, mildew, and soap indicated this might be the prisoner shower room. Zagato had not had the pleasure of visiting that place yet and from the funky smell wafting out of the stalls beyond he couldn't help but hope it might be avoided now.

So he looked back to John. Which was the preferable way?

John Carter wasn't sure whether his companion was really capable of such pointless cruelty or not, but he was trying to cover the bases all the same. Even if Zagato agreed to spare the prisonkeeps lives, he could just as easily go back on his word. As John had asserted about his own innocence before they only had each others word to go on. However if Zagato did agree to the terms and double-crossed the earth-man turned martian... then he would have made a formidable enemy no matter how the other might look down on this possibility. I'm a main character. I can't die. BUWHAHAHA

The utter lack of communication was a bit of an irritant to the forthright man. He really hadn't decided whether he felt comfortable with Zagato or not. His initial read on the man made him think that Zagato was carrying a heavy load on his shoulders. Something he wasn't altogether proud of. He hadn't boasted about his crimes, not like Pho Lar had on Sasoom (Jupiter).. but even Pho Lar had redeemed himself by the end of that encounter. So, he was trying not to be too hasty in his judgement. There must be some reason why Zagato preferred to keep his thoughts to himself.

Spotting the obstruction John also halted in his tracks. "So much for the direct approach...". That was, unless his companion decided to take out this gate as well.

Zagato was not alone in his aversion to the showers. John, was more torn between going forward and investigating that innocuous looking green door. If their captors had bothered to clean anything, he would have assumed due to it's proximity to the shower stalls that it was a janitorial closet. The sound of approaching footfalls made the decision for him. He moved to the door, and tested it to see if it was locked. If it was, it was old enough that he was sure he could force it. The showers were likely to be searched first, since there were more places to hide in there.

Thankfully the door swung free allowing the two to enter if they so desired. The interior was dark, devoid of the radium bulbs that were in use over much of Barsoom. The reliable old lights that could burn for eons. If this were a dead end, then they could wait it out until they were sure the men had taken a different turn, then return to blow the bars.. if it turned out to be something else... well, they might change their plans.

Feeling his way into the darkness, John Carter was able to get a relative idea of the dimensions of the room. It was small and narrow... but what intrigued him the most was when he bumped his foot against a raised slab of stone. After it, was another.... and another. Stairs? In a martian facility? How rare. Perhaps that explained the layers of dust and the evidence of less use. Modern Barsoomians, used inclines to reach the various levels of their buildings, and were quite confounded when tasked with running into the odd staircase. It was the ancient people who made use of such devices.. perhaps this building had been re-purposed. He was inclined to ascend the stairs to see where they led.

Inclined to use the incline. HAR!

With the practiced skill of one used to dodging such difficulties Zagato slipped through the narrow doorway which should have caught his uniquely designed shoulder armor by the sheer width from which it extended past the High Priest's body. The small side step necessary for such a feat going by unnoticed, perhaps because he had been quick about it or ... perhaps it was due to the dark. It was difficult to see in the gloom that sunk in around them but he diligently followed his walking road map up the stairs, thinking surely this man must know the way out.

It didn't become any lighter as they moved up the spiral staircase but they were ascending... not just in actually moving up through the facility they had found themselves in but up through something else as well. It was a feeling, a sensation, that drew his attention away from his companion. Familiar and yet...

He stopped in his tracks and cocked his head as if listening to a far distant voice.

"Ple... please..."

A cry for help? The ether seemed to be reaching out for him, tugging at the very fiber of his being.

"Save this world..."

But it couldn't be! It had sounded like her voice. But she couldn't have been here... Could she? Doubts rose in him about this place, it's nature, even... even about himself. There was something about that voice that shook him down to his very soul like nothing he had faced before.

"Legendary Magic Knights!"

No! Not again! He could not face that fate again!

Zagato charged forward, pushing John aside if he proved too slow to move out of the way. Ahead was a circular room whose ceiling opened to a glorious view of the stars and it was to this room the former High Priest of Cephiro found himself drawn. To this room, and to the illusion of the beautiful young girl with the flowing mane of blonde hair who stood in it's center smiling at him.
